Glendale Town Center
Glendale Town Center aka Glendale Mall or Glendale Center Mall is a retail shopping center located at 6101 North Keystone Avenue in Indianapolis.
==History==
Glendale mall was built in 1958 as an open air shopping center. It was designed by mall pioneer Victor Gruen and Associates. It is located on the North Side of Indianapolis, East of Broad Ripple Village.
When the Glendale Shopping Center opened, it was the premier retail center in Indianapolis and boasted an impressive array of upscale retailers (see below). It was converted to a covered mall in the 1960s. Until Glendale's construction, most major department stores in Indianapolis were located only in the Downtown district. Glendale was frequently the first local "branch" store away from the established flagship locations Downtown.
Following the opening of the Fashion Mall at the Keystone at the Crossing development two miles North, Glendale began to lose many of its better-known tenants. The original mall was demolished March 1, 2007. New construction and design returned it to being an open-air shopping center in early 2008.
The original anchors were L. S. Ayres and William H. Block. Other high-end tenants included Davidson's Furs, L. Strauss & Co., and Roderick St. John's clothiers. Other stores included Hook's Drug Stores, Paul Harris, Morrison's, Sam's Subway, B Dalton, Goodman Jewelers, McNamara Florist, Lieber's, G.C. Murphy, Standard Food, and Graham's of Glendale.
The complex is currently owned by Kite Realty. 〔http://www.kiterealty.com/portfolio.cfm/Property/36/〕 Anchor stores now include Macy's, Target, Lowe's and a multi-plex cinema. Smaller stores include Catherine's Plus Sizes, Jimmy John's, Taco Bell, O'Charley's, Panera, Walgreens, and Lenscrafters.
